Entanglements series (2017-19) pastel on paper, 41x29 cm
These works on paper are produced by hand. Some of them are literally "finger paintings" and the artist's fingerprints can be seen. In a culture dominated by ideas, narratives, and information, these works are studies in light, colour, human perception, and the imagination. The title Entanglements refers to a property physicists call 'entanglement', which says that, bizarrely, particles even light years apart move together and influence each other. Entanglement is a very unintuitive, seemingly irrational property of our universe and points to the fundamental strangeness of the world. It's wonderful. The Entanglements series may also include images of sailboats, sunsets, dogs having sex, and faces of people like Sandy Toksvig or Joe Flaherty.
